How Did I Get in the Box? Fighting Innovation Fatigue with Design Thinking
Presented by: Ashish Mehta, Matthew Leach
Does the word innovation make you cringe? Do you find yourself only wanting to think inside of the box? If so, you, and your organization, might be suffering from innovation fatigue.
Better, faster, cheaper. To succeed in today’s challenging business environment you need to get to the next-big-thing before the competition. You need to innovate. Unfortunately, this demand for innovation has created a culture of mandated creativity and taken innovation from the battle cry of the transformative to the over used cliche of corporate culture. Too many organizations demand that their employees “be innovative”, without providing the structure or discipline to make innovation reality. The results: anemic performance with status-quo thinking from a disengaged and disenchanted workforce. In short, innovation fatigue.
The solution: Fight innovation fatigue with design thinking driven with business analysis.
Design thinking offers a process driven approach to innovation which leverages the concepts and techniques of business analysis to promote the design of solutions to business problems. From empathy, to idea, to test, this presentation will introduce the concept of Design Thinking and use real-world examples through a case study to demonstrate how business analysts can apply Design Thinking concepts in their own organizations to fight innovation fatigue, establish an ecosystem that promotes new ideas, and break out of the status-quo. We’ll highlight alignment with the knowledge, activities, and techniques from BABOK V3, how they can be used drive innovation and design tomorrow.
What Attendees Will Learn:
- Knowledge of Design Thinking concepts
- The application of Design Thinking to business analysis
- Alignment for Design thinking principles to BABOK V3
- A plan to combat innovation fatigue
