Requirements to Results — Leveraging Enterprise Business Capabilities at First Guaranty Mortgage Company

Presented by: William Johns, Douglas Jackson

First Guaranty Mortgage Company [FGMC] is a leading mortgage corporation with ambitious plans for growth.  To accomplish its growth objectives, FGMC has begun to apply some leading edge thinking, building Enterprise Business Capabilites into its operating model, providing the underlying architecture and support that FGMC needs to scale and innovate.

This presentation will focus on 3 key areas where Enterprise Business Capabilities are delivering tangible business value:

  • Tight Integration between Enterprise Business Analysis and Enterprise Data Management – In the mortgage industry (and financial services in general), data is literally the currency that drives business decisions and new innovations.  FGMC will share how enterprise business analysis is used to ensure the integrity, quality and traceability of data to support business decision making and open up creative new opportunities.
  • “Business Friendly” Architecture Approach – At FGMC, architecture is an interactive business activity; it helps business functions optimize and take advantage of market opportunities.  FGMC will share how it views requirements and architecture as symbiotic:  Architecture defines and manages requirements, while satisfied requirements represent the most current architectural view of the organization.  The benefit of this approach is that business can use the architecture to understand impacts of different courses of action, mitigating risk and opening opportunities to innovate.
  • Leveraging Business Analysis as a tool for Acquisition Support – Once a merger or other acquisition takes place, often more time is spent making the decision than how to smoothly integrate.  At FGMC, enterprise business analysis teams are working with change management and risk teams to ensure requirements deliver smooth transitions and integration of new assets.  The result is faster returns on key corporate investments.

At FGMC, delivering these components effectively required a new level of practitioner AND the ongoing build out of organizational competencies.  But once these competencies are developed and nurtured the results are quite compelling!
