"We Need Business Analysts!" — Establishing Consistency and Achieving Success with Business Analysts
Presented by: Margaret Latonio
Have you worked from one project to the next and noticed that requirements are managed differently, documented inconsistently, or do not exist because there are no resources to elicit requirements? Have you experienced roadblocks to standardize the practice of BA’s or “professionalize” the BA role in your organization? HMSA’s BCIS management team recognized these issues in their requirements process and deliberately embarked on implementing a structured Business Analyst role to achieve consistent, quality results. In 2014, a BA development program based on IIBA's BABOK and Competency Model was piloted and subsequently built upon to address gaps in organizational expectations and skillset as it relates to BAs. The process of establishing the BA role included four (4) main strategies:
- Business Analyst Job Description and Career Path
- Training Plan
- Community of Practice
- BA Online Resource Center
Join Margaret in this session as she shares her department’s journey towards solidifying the role of the Business Analyst as a valued contributor to the organization’s success. Learn about the intranpreneurial approach that was taken to drive change and innovation. Walk away with lessons learned, a BA development approach and framework; and other useful tools that will support the establishment and development of your BA teams.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about one organization's approach to developing business analysts
- Apply tools and lessons learned in the development of your own BA program
- Implement a BA development program in your own organizations
