Giving Data a Voice: Transforming Data Into Actionable Insight Through Story

Presented by: Lori Silverman

How do you effectively communicate a data-driven business case? How do you keep people energized and engaged while sharing a bunch of numbers and figures? How do you turn a pile of statistical information into something that's meaningful? It’s not enough to wrap graphics and fancy visualizations around data and deliver them in a slick package. All data has a voice. Someone has to extrapolate meaning from it, and then transform this meaning — these insights — into compelling stories that moves people to shift their thinking or change their behavior. In this keynote, hear what’s needed to storify data and information to more quickly get your point across in order to spark action.

Objectives: After this presentation, you will be able to …

  1. Generate context questions to ask before and after data has been generated.
  2. Identify three different kinds of insights that can emerge from data.
  3. Create compelling stories from the meaning generated by the insights that have been identified.
