Facilitating International Communication on a Multicultural Team
Presented by: Christopher Jones
This presentation will discuss best practices for communicating and understanding cultural differences on a multicultural team. Working as a business analyst at Walmart Technology means that most of your projects are global. Walmart operates retail units in 28 countries so our IT initiatives must serve customers across the globe. Requirement elicitation techniques that work well in the U.S or Canada may not translate well with stakeholders based in China, South Africa, or Brazil. We will review real life examples of how communication styles can be adjusted to ensure requirements are accurately captured. We will also learn how Walmart business analysts located in different international markets share their country-specific best practices across the company.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn communication techniques to leverage when your business partners are based out of different countries.
- Discover real life examples of how communication styles can affect the outcome of global projects.
- Demonstrate how effective communication ensures that business requirements are accurately captured and fewer defects are discovered during UAT.
