Using Design Thinking to Transform Perception

Presented by: Tim Kramer

This presentation is about (as if it's not obvious) Design Thinking and how it can be used within your organization. In this presentation, the speaker discusses at a high level what his organization went through when starting a Design Thinking program and what some of the main challenges were, and then moves on to discuss how the organization overcame those challenges and how a "grass roots" approach worked to gain traction for bringing Design Thinking back to life. The presenter will also provide specific details about how his organization used Design Thinking principles to start their program-- focusing on the most common areas of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. He will then go in to how each of the main focus areas where decomposed, in order to apply the principles when engaging customers.

While Design Thinking seems to be more and more popular, there is still a gap in how organizations can apply these fundamentals within their current processes. The presenter started a small team of Design Thinking Evangelists within his company in order to educate others, build skill sets and provide greater value to the organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the main (high level) principles of Desi
  • To understand how TE has implemented the principles of Design Thinking
  • To understand lessons learned and how to overcome challenges
