In 2016, over $5 billion of investment money poured into in Artificial Intelligence (AI) startups, but it is projected to triple by the end of this year. Point solutions are available and being built to solve specific problems, such as the case of a Japanese insurance firm that replaced around thirty workers with an IBM artificial intelligence system in its underwriting department. There is no question that cognitive systems driven by AI are becoming an integral part of businesses.

AI is impacting businesses in fundamental ways, enabling businesses to move beyond automation to cognition. As machines driven by AI get better at learning, analysis and decision making, people will find themselves working alongside these machines. How do we effectively integrate these AI machines into the business? That's the concept of collaborative AI that we'll explore.

We will explore a case study in the insurance domain where integration of AI into the process is not simply the automation of that part of the process, but one that has a bigger and broader impact across the organization.
