The Business Side of Data, and Why It Matters!
Presented by: Dora Boussias
There’s a lot of talk these days about being ‘data-driven’ or that ‘data is an asset’. Roles such as VP or Director of Data and Analytics have been elevated to mean more than managing a data warehouse; many organizations hire into the relatively new role of Chief Data Officer (CDO), typically expecting this person to define what the role is all about, or as an answer to all the hype and increasing data-related regulations.
This session will discuss a comprehensive Enterprise Information Management (EIM) framework that depicts all the components to consider when embarking on a journey to manage 'data as an asset'; emphasis will also be given to the key areas to prioritize on, for increased chances of program success.
As a 20+ years practitioner in this space, the insights shared are based on my own experience and education; they especially speak to lessons learned from having held leading roles raising awareness about the business side of data and implementing several different areas of a comprehensive EIM program over the past ~10 years, in large organizations which themselves are leaders in their respective industry.
Learning Objectives:
- What is 'data as an asset'?
- Why it matters?
- EIM framework to start addressing data challenges, regardless of the industry you're in
- Key tenets to prioritize and focus on
