Creating the Ultimate Innovation Environment
Presented by: Andrew Hobday
Unlike successful start-ups, many mature organisations miss opportunities to leverage their innovation potential. It may be opportunities to extend innovative thinking across the entire organisation, or opportunities to build capability for progressing good ideas through to application.
In this session, the presenter shares how IAG (Australia’s largest general insurer) has undergone a paradigm shift from having only a small number innovating to having everyone contributing.
However, the results of innovation are only the iceberg’s tip. “Under the waterline” is where a complex set of elements interact to foster the ultimate innovation environment. This concept’s explored including how to identify elements for your organisation and build capability around them.
Even with diverse ideas and the right environment, there still needs to be a capability for moving from ideas to experiments and through to creation. To achieve this, a mix of design thinking, lean governance, and agile development is employed. The presenter lays out this progression, highlighting key concepts and techniques.
In line with this transformation, the Business Analyst role is explored and its evolution to include greater designer and storyteller elements to support the shift.
Drawing on his insights from Japan and the “test & learn” environment at IAG, the presenter brings theory to life with stories of success and failure – and explains why both are valuable in the quest to become truly innovative.
What Attendees Will Learn:
- Discover ways to identify and build elements that support an environment optimised for innovation
- Understand how design thinking, lean governance, and agile development can be used to progress innovative ideas from concept through to market
- Learn how to unlock the potential of your Business Analysts in the creation and sustainability of an organisational environment supporting greater innovation
