Business Concept Models as a Foundation for Analysis

Presented by: Martin Sykes

This workshop explains how to use a core technique called the Business Concept Model to develop a high quality business vocabulary. First created in the 1970s these models today provide a foundation for many of today’s different analytical techniques. The workshop will provide an interactive education on:

  • How to create and use Business Concept Models to drive clarity in the creation of the business vocabulary.
  • Creating people-friendly models to communicate precisely with stakeholders, avoiding the techno-speak evident in many analytical methods.
  • Developing the Business Concept Model as a starting point for an Enterprise Information Model, data models, data warehouses, business rules, business capability models, process models and business models.

At the end of the session the attendees will be able to:

  • Balance abstraction and clarity in the creation of a Business Concept Model.
  • Explain the features of Business Concept Models and how to use them to create other key models.
  • Relate the technique to the work of business analysts, data modellers and architects.
