BBC Interview Series: Jason Bloomberg at Intellyx

September 16, 2015 | BBC Interview Series

In anticipation of his presentation at Building Business Capability in Vegas, Nov. 2 – 6, 2015, we asked Jason Bloomberg, President at Intellyx, a few questions about pursuing business excellence. Check out his interview in relation to his BBC presentation entitled Innovation Processes in the Age of Digital Transformation.

Q: How are you helping your audience with the pursuit of business excellence and how does it impact their business units/departments?

A: At Intellyx, we focus on Agile Digital Transformation. We define digital as customer preferences and behavior drive enterprise technology decisions. To respond to these customer pressures, enterprises must transform both their technology and their organization. We help them understand how to succeed with such transformations in an agile way.

Q: Can you describe the challenges your audience faces or has already overcome in establishing a more cohesive and productive company or organization?

A: One of the greatest challenges is moving to a self-organization model. Self-organizing teams drive innovation and deal with disruption, thus lowering risk for the organizations that adopt this approach. But managers have to manage very differently. If you’re managing a team, it’s not self-organized!

Q: What are your near term goals for helping your audience become more agile organizations?

A: When you look at all the multifaceted changes necessary to succeed at digital transformation, the challenge appears insurmountable. In the short term, therefore, it’s important to take manageable steps within the context of the overall effort. In other words, we help organizations take an iterative approach – one of the foundations of the Agile movement.

Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in 2015 thus far? What’s the most important goal/trend for [pick one or two: business analysts, business architects, business process managers and/or business rules managers] to keep in mind?

A: I’ve learned that DevOps and digital transformation are essentially two different ways of looking at the same thing.

Q: What’s the latest method/process/tool you have implemented to help your audience run more efficiently and effectively?

A: Intellyx offers the Bloomberg Agile Architecture Certification course, where we teach architects and other professionals how to guide their organizations toward successful digital transformation.

Q: If you could give your five-years-ago self-insight and advice about this industry, what would you say?

A: Look for the confusion. Where there’s confusion, there’s a need for clarity.

Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at Building Business Capability?

A: I’ll be talking about innovation from the perspective of business process. What does it mean to have a process for innovation in the context of digital transformation?
