BBC Interview Series: Manish Goyal of Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
In anticipation of his co-presentation at Building Business Capability in Vegas, Nov. 2 – 6, 2015, we asked Manish Goyal, Enterprise Business Analyst, Lowe’s Companies, Inc., a few questions about pursuing business excellence. Check out his interview in relation to his BBC co-presentation entitled, A Journey of Progressive Elaboration: Turning a One Line Business Strategy into a Successful Design.
Q: How is your organization advancing the pursuit of business excellence and how does it impact your business units/departments?
A: Our organization has a customer driven and customer focused approach which helps drive key initiatives to address customer specific needs while creating value for the shareholders.
Q: Can you describe the challenges you face or have already overcome in establishing a more cohesive and productive company or organization?
A: Some of the challenges which we normally face in everyday work life are aligning diverse stakeholders, managing communication in the complex environment of ever changing needs. We are overcoming these challenges by creating cohesive and agile groups within the organization.
Q: What are your near term goals for creating a more agile organization at your business or company?
A: When I talk agile, I believe two things are very important – agility in thoughts and entrepreneurial mindset. My near term goals are to imbibe these thoughts in people around me to create a value based collaborative culture.
Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in 2015 thus far? What’s the most important goal/trend for [pick one or two: business analysts, business architects, business process managers and/or business rules managers] to keep in mind?
A: Dealing with our ecosystem – stakeholders, systems, environment etc. is challenging for everyone, however the most important thing is how do we keep adding value in the role of a valued business analyst.
Q: If you could give your five-years-ago self-insight and advice about this industry, what would you say?
A: In last five years, it has evolved a lot with few overlaps between different roles like business analysts, business architects, business process managers etc. My advice would be to find the right balance in these roles and identify value added tricks from each of the role.
Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at Building Business Capability?
A: The title says it all: “Turning a One Line Business Strategy into a Successful Design.”
