BBC Interview Series: Ronak Sanghavi at ValueBASE, Inc.
BBC 2017 Speaker Series – Consultants: Ronak Sanghavi, Managing Partner at ValueBASE, Inc.
In anticipation of his presentation at Building Business Capability in Orlando, Nov. 6-10, 2017, we asked Ronak Sanghavi, Managing Partner at ValueBASE, Inc., a few questions about transforming the business. Check out this interview in relation to his BBC presentation entitled, Elicitation Simulator – Extracting More Information From Elicitation Sessions.
Q: In what ways do you help your client organizations handle business transformation?
A: I help client organizations get more value out of their Business Analysis function by enhancing maturity of the function and the practitioners. I offer competency model, skill assessment and learning solutions.
Q: Can you describe the challenges you face or have already overcome in establishing more robust business transformation capabilities for your clients?
A: The biggest challenge I face is finding a sponsor who has the vision and authority to embark on transforming capabilities- even when I give them a realistic roadmap.
Q: What are your top suggestions for companies looking to become more agile?
A: Give as much importance to inculcating an Agile mindset as you do on Agile methodology.
Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in the past year?
A: A much deeper immersion in the Agile world in the past year has reinforced what I knew, i.e. how difficult it is to change people’s mindset. I continue to see people doing things differently (Agile) with the same old perspectives, attitudes, traits, values, etc. (Waterfall). Unfortunately, I don’t see companies addressing this challenge by investing in appropriate training and other activities.
Q: What do you see as the most important goal or trend for business analysts and other professionals to keep in mind?
A: Most important goal is to prepare yourself for the hyper-disruption that will be created by the fourth industrial revolution brought about by Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Virtual Reality, Robotics, etc.
Q: What’s the latest method/process/tool you’ve implemented to help your client’s business’s operate more effectively? Have you seen any results yet?
A: Using online skill assessments before and after training courses. Clients love this because they can measure training effectiveness and track employee growth.
Q: If you could go back 5 years in time and give some professional insight or advice to yourself, what would it be?
A: As you innovate and build solutions for the future, stay very firmly rooted in the ground-realities
Q: What’s one question you wished you were asked in this interview but were not? And how would you answer?
A: What is your vision for the Business Analysis function? My answer: Organizations and leadership looks at business analysis function as a “GPS” to achieve project and organizational goals.
Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at the Building Business Capability (BBC) conference this year?
A: The most important takeaway is a list of 10 consultative-elicitation techniques to help subject matter experts discover and articulate their needs.
