BBC Interview Series: Tom Einar Nyberg at Capgemini
In anticipation of his presentation at Building Business Capabilityin Vegas, Nov. 2 – 6, 2015, we asked Tom Einar Nyberg, BPM Team Lead – Managing Consultant at Capgemini, a few questions about pursuing business excellence. Check out his interview in relation to his BBC presentation entitled Practical Implementation – Making Process Governance Work – For Real!
Q: How is your organization advancing the pursuit of business excellence and how does it impact your business units/departments?
A: As a consulting organization, our focus is on our client problems. The major areas within Business Excellence are currently being addressed through the combination of Process, Digitalization and Analytical Insight.
Q: Can you describe the challenges you face or have already overcome in establishing a more cohesive and productive company or organization?
A: Enabling the organization, its culture and people dealing with the increasing change of pace in the digital market place.
Q: What are your near term goals for creating a more agile organization at your business or company?
A: Organizations need to be agile in order address 4 main areas of concern – the “4 Cs”: Customer Experience, Cost & Effectiveness, Compliance & Control, and Changing Market Needs. In the center of dealing with this change – are your processes. They need to deliver an excellent customer experience, be efficient in terms of resources, deliver consistent results and change with the market and customer’s needs. So an agile organization needs agile processes.
Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in 2015 thus far? What’s the most important goal/trend for [pick one or two: business analysts, business architects, business process managers and/or business rules managers] to keep in mind?
A: That your own beliefs and passion on a subject never transfers to others just by you expressing them – they must experience the benefits themselves in order to become believers. The most important trends for all the roles is the disruptive impact that digitization is having on business models, operational processes and customer experience – better keep up .
Q: What’s the latest method/process/tool you have implemented to help your organization or business run more efficiently and effectively?
A: I believe in having a “toolbox” where you apply the right tool – depending on the job / problem that needs to be solved. So I am not “religious” about a specific method – but I use what I think will get the job done. To me – Business Process Management is my toolbox, and I use whatever method is best suited.
Q: If you could give your five-years-ago self-insight and advice about this industry, what would you say?
A: I believe organizations will always need to address the same four fundamental areas: Customer Experience, Cost & Effectives, Compliance & Control, and Changing Market Needs. That was true 5 years ago, it’s true now, and it will be true in another 5 years. What changes over time is the way one reaches for these goals. For the last 5 years – it’s been the emergence of Digitalization, Mobility and Data-Insight that has changed most organizations ability to innovate and given them a new “plan-of-attack.”
Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at Building Business Capability.
A: A practical approach, grounded in real-life, on how you get process governance working – and delivering results – in your own organization.
