BBC Interview Series: Tom Einar Nyberg at Capgemini Nordics

September 14, 2017 | BBC Interview Series, blog

BBC 2017 Speaker Series – Consultant: Tom Einar Nyberg

In anticipation of his presentation at Building Business Capability in Orlando, Nov. 6-10, 2017, we asked Tom Einar Nyberg, Head of Business Process Management and Robotics at Capgemini Nordics, a few questions about transforming the business.  Check out this interview in relation to his BBC presentation entitled, The Robots are Rising – and FAST! How Do You Adopt Them into Your Organizations?

Q: In what ways do you help your client organizations handle business transformation?

A: Currently we see a major challenge is to transition the clients operations into a fully Digital “Operating” Platform, dealing with both processes, information flow, automation and knowledge workers.

Q: Can you describe the challenges you face or have already overcome in establishing more robust business transformation capabilities for your clients?

A: Transformation and change is becoming the standard for how you operate – it’s not a matter of “freeze” or “unfreeze” anymore, but a dynamic capability to continuously change. This means the organizations need to have a better overview of where they are (business architecture) but also where they are going – and the road to get there.

Q: What are your top suggestions for companies looking to become more agile?

A: Get your foundation under control first – then it’s easier to be agile: Processes, Information, Automation, Applications and Human capital.

Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in the past year?

A: The speed of change is moving faster than expected for all us. It’s easy to forget about the human transition when the “Digital mindset” is so focused on the technology

Q: What do you see as the most important goal or trend for business analysts and other professionals to keep in mind?

A: Adopt your methodology and working methods to the new Digital world, be pragmatic, more business focused, but plan for Governance early on to avoid Rouge-It challenges.

Q: What’s the latest method/process/tool you’ve implemented to help your client’s business’s operate more effectively? Have you seen any results yet?

A: Automation using Robotic technology has exploded in terms of use cases and realized benefits – implementation time is measured in weeks and ROI within the next 3-6 months.

Q: If you could go back 5 years in time and give some professional insight or advice to yourself, what would it be?

A: Start building the core foundation for Digital Operations – NOW.

Q: What’s one question you wished you were asked in this interview but were not? And how would you answer?

A: Prediction: How will AI affect the business world over the next 5 years?  In some ways – AI will transform a lot of businesses the same way Electricity and the Internet has – it’s a paradigm shift that will alter our expectations. Faster, Cheaper, Better is getting a new “brother”: SMARTer.

But I also believe that AI will not materialize in the way we expect it to.  Intelligent Products and Services will be AI powered, but not in the way we “envision” AI – using our Pop-culture reference mindset – which looks at AI as something “separate” from the rest of our normal business.

AI will have disappointing returns in some businesses areas, and extreme transformational applications in others.

There will be many missteps, failures and successes along this way – until it just becomes a “natural” way of how we operate businesses.

Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at the Building Business Capability (BBC) conference this year?

A: How the introduction of Robotics is going to impact your organizations, its benefits, challenges and impact on your human workforce.
