September 21, 2016 | BBC Interview Series

In anticipation of her pre-conference tutorial at Building Business Capability in Vegas, Oct 31, – Nov. 4, 2016, we asked Kathleen (Kitty) B. Hass, PMP, President and Principal Consultant at Kathleen Hass & Associates, Inc., a few questions about pursuing business excellence. Check out her interview in relation to her BBC presentation entitled, Enterprise Business Analysis: Adding Value to Customers and Wealth to the Bottom Line.

Q: In what ways do you see your group helping your organization pursue business excellence?

A: As a consultant, I work with management to implement a value-based BA practice.

Q: Can you describe the challenges you face or have already overcome in establishing more robust business capabilities for your organization?

A: It is difficult to get management’s attention and dedicated time.  They are pulled in a million directions.

Q: What are your short-term goals for becoming more agile?

A: Focus on incremental deliverables.

Q: What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned in the past year?

A: Using design thinking to “design the solution.”

Q: What do you see as the most important goal or trend for business analysts and other professionals to keep in mind?

A: It’s all about value to the customer, and wealth to the bottom line.

Q: What’s the latest method/process/tool you’ve implemented to help your business operate more effectively? Have you seen any results yet?

A: BA Practice Maturity Model/Assessment and BA Workforce Capability Model/Assessment.

Q: If you could go back 5 years in time and give some professional insight or advice to yourself, what would it be?

A: A focus on collaboration/networking.

Q: What’s one question you wished you were asked in this interview but were not? And how would you answer?

A: How can you make the most difference in your organization?  Be brave and courageous and keep your eye on the value of the solution.

Q: Sneak preview: Please tell us a take-away that you will provide during your talk at the Building Business Capability (BBC) conference this year?

A: Managing project complexity and using design thinking.
